What is the Political Courage Test?

Kansas Congressional Election 2018 Political Courage Test

Pro-life Do you generally support pro-choice or pro-life legislation?
Exceptions for unspeakable acts or when mother's health is in jeopardy.
No In order to balance the budget, do you support an income tax increase on any tax bracket?
Yes In order to balance the budget, do you support reducing defense spending?
The federal income tax and the IRS should be abolished, and replaced with the FAIR Tax. With the FAIR Tax, American's keep 100% of their paycheck and instead pay for government services through a consumption tax that does not tax life's necessities (food, water, utilities). This lessens the demand on our social programs as lower income families will be taking more money home to make ends meet, and restores every American's right to own his/her production The Fair Tax puts a visible price tag on the cost of government, while closing ALL tax loopholes.
Yes Do you support the regulation of indirect campaign contributions from corporations and unions?
This is one of the most important issues of our time, and why I choose to set the example by not accepting any special interest or corporate money for my campaign. I believe all candidates should be given a public stipend of $50,000, with no ability to accept further donations. The state should pay to televise/livestream at least 3 debates for all candidates on the official ballot, so that voters can be adequately informed of each candidates proposed solutions. Put simply, the best candidate, with the best solutions should win, not the one who can afford the most commercials.
No Do you support federal spending as a means of promoting economic growth?
No Do you support lowering corporate taxes as a means of promoting economic growth?
I believe the corporate tax code changes in the most recent tax bill has decreased taxes for corporations appropriately.
No Do you support requiring states to adopt federal education standards?
The idea of standardized education is an affront to what we know about how students learn. One size does not fit all, for students, or for teachers. There are 325 million people in the U.S. with different backgrounds, learning styles, cognitive abilities, etc. Its ludicrous to suggest that all of those individuals be educated in the same manner, or even on the same content. As a teacher, I can attest that the only thing federal standards and NCLB have done, is destroy the learning environment for our children, and has taken the joy of learning away from an entire generation.
No Do you support government funding for the development of renewable energy (e.g. solar, wind, thermal)?
No Do you support the federal regulation of greenhouse gas emissions?
The federal government should not be choosing winners and losers. That means zero tax subsidies or public money for any business, be it fossil fuels or solar power. Ultimately, American's will vote with their dollars and continue to fund the renewable energy industry, as it is the best option for our country moving forward.
No Do you generally support gun-control legislation?
Our founders were clear, and so is the bill of rights. The second amendment is to defend the public from tyranny within, and to provide for the personal protection of the public. There are many societal issues that need to be addressed in order to curb the violence occurring in our inner cities, which accounts for the vast majority of violent crime in our nation.
Yes Do you support repealing the 2010 Affordable Care Act ("Obamacare")?
There are many solutions to cutting medical costs. -Cut medical patents from 25 years, down to 5 years -Allow for treatments and procedures approved in other countries to be fast tracked here in the U.S. -Educate families about the benefits of the Direct Primary Care system -End the unconstitutional Controlled Substances Act, and allow all substances to be researched and used for their medicinal benefits -Allow the Medicare system to negotiate drug prices. -Help reduce administrative costs on all levels of the healthcare industry -Stop FDA obstructionism in preventing generics and other more affordable treatments from coming to market.
Yes Do you support the construction of a wall along the Mexican border?
Yes Do you support requiring immigrants who are unlawfully present to return to their country of origin before they are eligible for citizenship?
As a national security issue, we need to be able to control the flux of people across our borders. It's also a human rights issue, as illegal immigrants are not afforded the same rights/protections as Americans, and are often taken advantage of when migrating illegally. Maintaining the rule of law is to the benefit of all parties involved in immigrating to the U.S. I believe in simplifying the immigration system, and making it easier for migrant families to obtain and maintain their legal status when coming to the U.S. I would also support a one time DACA exemption.
Yes Do you support the legalization of marijuana for recreational purposes?
The Controlled Substances Act is unconstitutional, and all substances currently banned by the federal government should be legalized for immediate research and use. The DEA, and their actions are wholly illegal and an affront to the values of our founders and the Constitution.
Yes Should the United States use military force in order to prevent governments hostile to the U.S. from possessing a nuclear weapon?
No Do you support increased American intervention in Middle Eastern conflicts beyond air support?
Nuclear proliferation is an existential threat to all life on the planet, and as such, any attempts to nuclearize a nation must be thwarted. That said, our interventionist policies in the Middle East and South America have only made things worse for those respective countries, as well as heightened the level of terrorism abroad. Our policy in the Middle East should be to contain the threats of violent extremism within the borders of their current countries, and nothing more.
1) Restoration of our civil liberties has been, and will remain my number 1 priority in congress. The Bill of Rights is in shambles, our system of checks and balances has been broken through malfeasance, and it is imperative these violations of law be rectified in the swiftest manner possible. 2) Balancing the budget, and reducing our $21 trillion national debt is vital to our future economic security, and the financial wellbeing of all Americans. 3) Replacing the IRS/Income tax with the FAIR Tax is another vital step to economic growth, and the personal liberties of all Americans.
